CHANDLER, Ari.- Phoenix Rising FC opened up with 100% capacity at Wild Horse Pass on June 5th against San Diego Loyal which resulted in a tie game. The match was played in front of a club record crowd of 8,053 fans, breaking the previous record of 7,707 from October 2018. The new stadium on the Gila River Indian Community holds about 10,000 fans.

San Diego dominated the entire game again Rising. During the game, Rising took 32 shots and only 3 were on target. San Diego took 10 shots and 6 were on target. The first was scored in the 19th minute into the first half by Miguel Berry and the second was scored at the 71st minute when Jack Blake (assist from Collin Martin) scored a hard shot at the top corner of the net behind Rawls. San Diego lead 2-0 as they came out more aggressive this match than they did the first match of the season.

"We had to make an adjustment at halftime and I thought it was fantastic. The players responded very well, they understood the tactics,” Rising manager Rick Schantz said after the match. “We didn’t get a goal early enough I thought. We gave up the second goal on some passive defending. And then I think you saw the Phoenix Rising heart. They refuse to lose here. They will never stop.

“I learned a valuable lesson as a coach today. You cannot take any opponents in this league lightly. You can’t ever think that it’s going to be easy and you have to push the boys from start to finish.”

With six minutes of stoppage added to the clock gave Rising time to fire back and keep the game alive. Don't count Phoenix Rising FC out of the game until the end. At 90+1 forward Santi Moar scored as they rallied back to try to win the game. Rising kept pushing and fighting when midfielder Joey Calistri scored second goal at 90+7. Calistri received one of the two open midfielder spots along with Jeremy Kelly as Kevon Lambert is playing for Jamaica in friendlies and Aodhan Quinn was a pre-game scratch with hamstring. For those fans that stayed through the stoppage, you can imagine the energy they possessed all the way to the last second.

Rising's next game will be home on Saturday, June 12th against Tacoma Defiance at 7:30 pm
